Description/Job Summary

This position is on a federal Ability One contract that requires most of the work hours are performed by employees with disabilities. Due to program requirements, this particular position needs to be filled by a person meeting the Ability One criteria.


The Editorial Clerk Must be able to perform the following duties: Review proposed supplements to Army regulations, command directives, and policy memorandums to assure that proper format and design are utilized by the preparing agency. Make recommendations to action offices as to what type of publication would be most appropriate based on the regulatory criteria for each. Assign appropriate subject matter classification codes and/or numbers. Establish and maintain an index of current directives and policy memorandums. Authenticate and ensure all publications are uploaded to the Fort Rucker intranet. Edit final drafts of local regulations, command directives and policy memorandums for appropriate style and format, basic grammar, punctuation, syllabification, spelling, capitalization, and accepted English usage, utilizing knowledge of current editorial techniques and governing policies and procedures, applying guidelines contained in the GPO Style Manual, Army regulations, Thesaurus, dictionaries, etc. Correct errors in faulty subject/verb, pronoun/antecedent and demonstrative adjective/noun agreement; case (nominative, possessive, or objective); faulty reference of pronouns; misplaced adverbs, modifying phrases/clauses, and split infinitives, sentence fragmentation, etc. Detect and correct apparent discrepancies and duplications, and verifies accuracy of figures and illustrations. Verify accuracy of referenced publications by accessing the Army Publishing Directorate website. Compare illustrations, tables, and figures with the text to assure they are accurate. Publish the USAACE and Fort Rucker Staff Directory biannually. Design layout and prepare the Staff Directory from guidance received from the Directorate of Human Resources and the Command Group. Task each activity for personnel/telephone/building number updates. Assist with the correspondence management which includes implementing policies and procedures regarding the preparation of correspondence, conducting correspondence training for militar and civilian personnel on the installation, and reviewing and approving the use of authorized seals, emblems, and approved logos. Review all publications to ensure compliance of standardized Fort Rucker terminology, abbreviations, and brevity codes usage. Provide administrative publications assistance, research, and guidance upon request. Assist Printing/Reproduction Control Officer (PRCO) with reviewing, approving, providing estimates, and entering all requests for printing. Keep all activities informed of printing budgets. Perform duties independently, receiving assistance and specific guidance only upon request when confronted with problems of unusual difficulty or unprecedented situations.  Work is reviewed for adherence to policy and soundness of conclusion. Perform other duties as assigned by Project Manager and other senior management staff.


  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a clerical office setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • MS Office skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Be able to pass organization screening requirements including state or federal background screenings as appropriate.


  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time
  • Must have the ability to communicate on the telephone, and to write, speak, read and hear.
  • The employee must have the ability to stand, bend, carry and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • May travel to and from various locations and buildings throughout the year and in various weather conditions. (Most work will take place indoors.)
  • Will be required to follow Emergency Operations Work Assignment per customer requirements.
