Overview:

The Laborer is responsible for performing mainly physical labor duties to support the organization's Facilities Maintenance (FM) functions.

Requirements

  • Must be able to comprehend both written and/or verbal instructions
  • Must be able to work overtime and be on call as required in support of FM operations.
  • Must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work assignment on the specified contract(s).
  • Must be able to pass organization screening requirements, including state or federal background screenings as appropriate.

Essential Functions

This position is responsible for performing tasks that require mainly physical abilities and effort. Must be able to perform the following duties.

Labor:

• Load and unload trucks and other conveyances.

• Move supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrow or hand truck.

• Stack materials for storage or binning.

• Collect refuse and salvageable materials.

• Dig, fill, and tamp earth excavations.

• Maintain lawns, shrubbery, flowers, and trees using power and hand mowers, lawn tractors, clippers, and hand tools. Apply fertilizer, insecticide, and fungicide to lawns, shrubbery, flowers, and trees as needed.

• Level ground using pick, shovel, tamper, and rake.

• Shovel concrete.

• Clean culverts and ditches.

• Cuts trees and brush.

• Operate power lawnmowers.

• Move and arrange heavy pieces of office and household furniture, equipment, and appliances.

• Move machinery and equipment.

• Pick up leaves and trash.

• Maximize existing resources to support departmental budget requirements.

• Attend and successfully complete all mandatory training requirements.

• Properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following safety guidelines.

• Perform duties required by site-specific statement of work.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • May travel to and from various locations and buildings throughout the year and in various weather conditions. Most work will take place indoors. May work with cleaning chemicals. Will be required to follow Emergency Operations Work Assignment per customer requirements. Schedules are subject to change. May require working early morning, mid-morning, afternoon, and/or evening hours and weekends, overtime, and holidays.
  • While performing this job's duties, the team member is regularly required to bend, crouch, walk, climb stairs and ladders, reach above head, sit (to drive) and lift up to 40 pounds. Will occasionally be required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
