Description/Job Summary

This is an AbilityOne contract which requires most work hours must be performed by a Team Member with Significant Disabilities. Due to the program requirements, this requisition needs to be filled by a person that meets the AbilityOne criteria.


The Cook I will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook and present a variety of food items for various meal periods: to include Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special Events. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below but GCE may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.


Responsibilities/Duties

Must be able to perform the duties required at the following work stations: (work stations may vary depending on contract specifications and building assignment)  Must be able to interact appropriately with customers, government personnel, subcontractor and GCE Management Staff. Prepares and cooks to order foods that may require short preparation time. Reads food order or receives verbal instructions on food required by patron, and prepares and cooks food according to instructions. Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, and servings foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments. Prepares foods under direct supervision or instruction by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables for culinary use. May clean and sanitize work stations and equipment and must follow all GCE, client and regulatory rules and procedures. Complies with all GCE HACCP policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.  May receive inventory, move and lift foodstuffs and supplies and prepare meals for customers requiring special diets.


Required Experience

Meet eligibility requirements for work assignment on specified contract..

Understand oral and/or written instructions.

Ability to read and quantify recipes, and menus.

Must possess knowledge of basic operation of kitchen.

Interact appropriately with customers, government personnel and staff members.

Must be able to pass organization screening requirements including state or federal background screenings as appropriate.

Details

This job will require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs, and may require occasional lifting and or moving up to 50 pounds. Exposure to extreme temperatures due to steam and heat from cooking, dishwashing, and refrigeration.
